A Testament to Modern Engineering in Singapore Engineering a slender 235-metre landmark within one of Singapore’s most constrained urban sites.
Frasers Tower is a 38-storey Grade A office development in Singapore’s Central Business District, comprising a premium office tower and a three-storey retail podium. Its distinctive architectural form, sloping façade and prominent urban setting demanded a highly coordinated structural engineering approach.
Meinhardt provided civil and structural engineering services, developing innovative solutions to address the tower’s slender form, challenging ground conditions and complex construction environment.
Innovative Structural Solutions
To address the demanding site conditions, Meinhardt developed a robust and practical engineering strategy focused on structural stability, constructability and protection of surrounding assets.
A secant pile earth-retaining system combined with semi-top-down construction was adopted to control wall deflection, ground movement and water drawdown during excavation. This enabled the three-level basement to be constructed safely while protecting adjacent structures.
The tower foundation incorporated a sustainable raft foundation system with settlement-reducing piles, strategically making use of favourable ground conditions beneath the basement. Piles were positioned to manage stress concentrations and control settlement while efficiently supporting the high-rise structure.
