Dr Shahzad Nasim worked closely with Bill Meinhardt from Meinhardt’s early days in Asia. Together, they helped establish the foundations for the company’s international growth.
Bill’s vision was built on engineering excellence, practical thinking and a commitment to clients. As Meinhardt evolved into a global group, Dr Nasim carried those principles forward, preserving the spirit of the business while guiding its growth into new markets and new areas of expertise.

What began in 1955 as one engineer’s vision in Melbourne has grown into a global engineering and consultancy group.
Founded by Bill Meinhardt, the practice was built on a simple belief: great engineering combines technical excellence with practical thinking and a deep understanding of the people and places it serves.
Over seven decades, Meinhardt has evolved with the world around it — expanding across Asia, the Middle East and Europe, broadening its technical expertise and contributing to some of the region’s most significant buildings and infrastructure.
Today, more than 6,000 professionals across 65 offices bring together global expertise and local insight to help clients plan, design and deliver the places, infrastructure and cities of tomorrow.

Where it began
Bill Meinhardt founded Meinhardt Consulting Engineers in Melbourne, Australia, establishing a legacy of practical engineering and innovation.
- 1955: William L. Meinhardt founds the practice in Melbourne, Australia.
- Early work: Exhibition Building, Coca-Cola and CIG projects in Australia.
Looking Beyond Australia
Seeing opportunity across Asia, Meinhardt opened its first overseas office in Singapore in 1973 through a joint venture with Bylander Waddell. Singapore became the foundation for our growth in Asia, followed by expansion into Hong Kong, Indonesia and aviation.
- 1974: New offices in Singapore and Hong Kong.
- 1975: Expansion into Indonesia and a new Aviation business.

Building Expertise
We added façade engineering, infrastructure and multidisciplinary building services, contributing to landmark projects such as Rialto Towers, Bugis Junction, the Ayer Rajah Expressway, OUB Centre and Bank of China Tower.
- 1988: New Façade business launched.
- Featured project: Glaxochem Pharmaceutical Plant, Singapore.
Expanding the Network
Meinhardt grew into Pakistan and Malaysia, building a network that shares knowledge across markets while keeping strong local relationships.
- 1990: Meinhardt Asia & International incorporated.
- 1991: New offices in Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur.
- 1992: Expansion into Pakistan.
- 1994: New Infrastructure & Environment business.
- 1995 to 1997: Expansion into Vietnam, the Philippines and the Middle East.
- Featured projects: Ayer Rajah Expressway, One Raffles Place, Pontiac Marina, Bugis Junction, Seagate International, Teletech Park (all Singapore).

A Global Multidisciplinary Practice
We broadened our expertise in project management, sustainability and infrastructure, and in 2004 Meinhardt Hong Kong acquired Mouchel Parkman Asia Ltd.
- 2000: Expansion into the UK.
- 2001 to 2003: New offices in Shenzhen, Shanghai and Dubai.
- 2004: Acquired Mouchel Parkman Asia Ltd.
- 2005 to 2007: New offices in Beijing and Ho Chi Minh; expansion into India and the US.
- 2008 to 2009: New offices in Manama, Riyadh and Tripoli.
- Featured projects: Capital Square, SMRT HarbourFront Interchange, The Sail@Marina Bay, Kim Chuan Telecommunications Complex, Biopolis, Deep Tunnel Sewerage System (all Singapore).

Meinhardt continued its evolution from an engineering practice into a global multidisciplinary consultancy.
- 2010: Management buyout; headquarters relocated to Singapore.
- 2011 to 2013: Acquired Eigen and Bradlees Civil Consulting; new offices in Tianjin, Istanbul and Yangon.
- 2014: International HQ Award from EDB Singapore; Centre of Excellence for Smart Cities & PM; offices in Johor Bahru and Phnom Penh.
- 2015: New EPCM business.
- 2016: Acquired Bhundia Associates (Kenya) and Murchie Associates (Melbourne); offices in Nairobi, Cairo and Bangalore.
- 2017 to 2018: New offices in Ahmedabad, Malta and Astana; MGI Capital launched.
- 2019: Acquired iEngineers Singapore (Vietnam) and Tham and Wong Vietnam; offices in Birmingham, Kathmandu and Surat.
